I'm cathrl (well, actually, I'm
Catherine, but since there are vast numbers of fanfic
writers with the same name I go by something a bit more
distinctive).
Until recently I didn't know
Thunderbirds had fanfiction. Two years before that I
didn't even know what fanfiction was. I just knew I wrote
stories about an old cartoon that I thought everyone else had
forgotten. Then, purely by chance, I Googled for the price of
a set of DVDs for my childhood addiction, and discovered I
wasn't alone in building a complex universe from a kids' show.
Not Thunderbirds. Not yet.
Eighteen months later and my kids demanded
to watch a certain movie on the TV. It was fun, but it wasn't
quite what I'd remembered. I mean, I'm English. Of course I
knew what Thunderbirds was, even if I'm not sure I'd
ever watched an episode. I did a bit of research, and found
this site. I did a lot of reading. And a little crossover plot
bunny sat up in my head and refused to go away.
I'd still be writing it quietly in the
corner, if I hadn't innocently mentioned it in the electronic
company of a couple of other writers, who bounced up and down
and insisted I came over to TIWF (Tracy Island Writers Forum).
I did. And I bought the DVDs. And I entered the challenges.
And here I am. This writing lark's a lot of fun, you know.
